rana elnemr is a visual artist who lives and works in Cairo, Egypt. Her practice engages with the city’s art scene and across the urban environment, ranging from formalist explorations of photography as a medium, to genre-bending visual essays of her surroundings. It is anchored in questioning what it means to live and experience place and time, through recording, describing and reflecting with photography, film, text and conversation. rana elnemr’s process incorporates formal image-making techniques with contemporary art and strives to integrate various forms of collaborations in different constellations, including trans-disciplinary collaborations and alternative pedagogical practices among many others. Her work has been exhibited and acquired by museum collections world-wide. In 2004, she was one of the founders of the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC) of which she remains an active board member.
